About Me - Barefoot in the Plains Learning Academy
Barefoot in the Plains Learning Academy was born out of my passion for educational innovation and a deep understanding of my own children’s diverse learning needs. As parent and educator, I saw firsthand how traditional education methods often overlooked the unique strengths and challenges of my own children. My cousin who passed four years ago Inspired me to homeschool my kids and follow the Charlotte Mason philosophy. Although I am an education major, I had small babies at home and decided this was the best path for us in the moment. When I took the plunge to homeschool, I began to explore alternative pathways to learning—pathways that prioritize living books and narration, allowing children to connect deeply with the material they engage with. Our homeschool school model was designed to provide individualized learning plans that cater to each of my child's specific abilities, especially my one child with learning disabilities. By integrating family support and engaging community co-ops, I created a warm and inclusive community where my children can flourish. My goal is to empower families to realize that formal education is not the only option; instead, there is a world of learning possibilities waiting to be explored, especially for students with learning disabilities. My oldest child, has had numerous open-heart surgeries. She attends public school part-time as an 8th grader. My youngest son is one and is a wild, sweet boy. I am blessed and enjoy being a mother, teacher. I look forward to my future in teaching in a classroom someday! Please see separate attachment for Resume.
